Not to be outdone by their close rivals Ajax and the Amsterdam Tournament, Feyenoord host their own Port of Rotterdam Tournament in their De Kuip Stadium on Friday 3 to Sunday 5 August.

Along with hosts Feyenoord, three other teams will participate: Liverpool, FC Porto and Shanghai Shenhua. All four competing teams are residents of major industrial ports which is the theme of the tournament.

Feyenoord
After a poor seventh placed finish last season, Feyenoord have undergone some major squad changes. Prolific striker Roy Makaay joined from Bayern Munich after scoring 78 goals in 129 matches across four seasons. Former Rangers striker Michael Mols signed on a free transfer while ex-Arsenal player Giovanni van Bronckhorst arrived from Barcelona in July and will bring a wealth of experience to assist the club’s home grown talent such as Jonathan de Guzman. The tournament will also be a chance for fans to watch Holland under 21 star Royston Drenthe, who has been a transfer target for Chelsea this summer.

Liverpool
After losing out to Portsmouth in the final of the Barclays Asia Trophy, Liverpool will want to go one better and win this pre-season tournament. New signing Fernando Torres will player a bigger part after having to wait for international clearance during the Reds time in Hong Kong and we may also get to see more of Brazilian youngster Lucas Leiva who only made a fleeting appearance in the Far East. This will also see a return to Rotterdam for former hero Dirk Kuyt, who scored 71 goals in 101 appearances for Feyenoord.

FC Porto
The Portuguese champions will provide stiff opposition but will have to do it with a new look squad. A number of players have left the club during the summer including Anderson to Manchester United, Pepe to Real Madrid and Hugo Almeida to Werder Bremen. Some more notable arrivals include Mariano Gonzalez on loan from Palermo, who had a loan spell at Serie A winners Inter Milan last season, Ernesto Farias from River Plate, who scored 42 goals in 80 appearances and Milan Stepanov from Trabzonspor.

Shanghai Shenhua
The Chinese Super League runners up will be expected to put up a better showing than South China in the Barclays Asia Trophy. The two most recognisable players on their books for non-followers of the Chinese game are former Middlesbrough striker Hamilton Ricard and 2002 World Cup defender Du Wei, who also had an infamous, one-match loan spell at Celtic in January 2006 where the Hoops were knocked out of the Scottish Cup by lowly Clyde.
