The annual Coral Eclipse takes place at Sandown on Saturday 7 July with punter’s favourite Authorized hotly tipped in the betting.

This race made its debut in 1886 and has been sponsored by bookmaker Coral for many years. It is named after Eclipse, an 18th Century Horse.

Out of the thoroughbreds aged three years and over invited to race over the one mile and two furlong distance, it is Vodafone Derby winner Authorized that has been made the odds-on favourite by the bookmakers.

Last year’s 2,000 Guineas winner, George Washington, has been instilled as second favourite on what will be his first experience at running this distance at Sandown. He came fourth over a mile in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot so has run a similar length before.

According to the betting odds, it is only Notnowcato, who came third to manduro in the Prince of Wales’ Stakes at Royal Ascot and Duke of Marmalade who have any chance of challenging the front two.
