Following last season’s promotion of Hartlepool, Walsall and Swindon, the division looks short of quality which should see big spending Peterborough storm their way to promotion. That’s what the bookmakers think, anyway.

Here we take a look at who has the best chance of escaping the “dungeon” and who will be battling to avoid dropping out of the Football League all together. (more…)

With just two matches to play in La Liga nothing can separate Real Madrid and Barcelona at the top of the table with both clubs level on 72 points - Madrid in first place due to a better head-to-head.

Madrid face an away trip to fifth placed Real Zaragoza while Barcelona host local rivals Espanyol, who occupy a mid table position at eleventh.

Sevilla are five points clear of fourth in third spot, two points behind the leaders, but could see their title campaign run out of steam this Sunday with a trip to Mallorca. (more…)

England travel to Estonia in a “must win” fixture after  finding the European Championship qualifying task a difficult one.

Stve McLaren’s charges lie fourth in Group E behind Russia, Israel and five points adrift of leader’s Croatia.

Surely England can beat an Estonia side that have lost all six matches played so far and failed to score a single goal - even bottom of the group Andorra have hit the back of the net once. (more…)

Manchester United stalwart Ryan Giggs will call time on his international career, winning his 64th and final cap against the Czech Republic this afternoon.

Giggs made his Wales debut in 1991 against Germany and at the time was the youngest-ever Welsh international at 17 years and 321 days old.

The current Wales captain would have undoubtedly won many more caps than he did but for club boss Alex Ferguson withdrawing him from the squad due to “hamstring injuries”. Indeed, it was not recently Giggs played an away friendly for his country. (more…)

Beckham has been in scintilating form for Real Madrid in the latter stages of the La Liga season. A combination of his on-field performances, England’s big “stars” failing to perform and a lack of other options has forced Steve McLaren to include him in the squad to face Brazil and Estonia.

At 32 years old and a forthcoming easy ride following his move to LA Galaxy in the MLS, Beckham can’t have many opportunities left to add to his caps tally, but McLaren has sensationally recalled him after a mediocre start to his tenure in charge. (more…)
